The US Constitution Case Study #1

Amanda's Case Summary: Students in a school wanted to wear armbands to express their opinions about the war in Vietnam. School officials found out that students were planning to do so and set a rule saying that students were not allowed to wear black armbands. The students still did it and were suspended. The case went to court and the students won because they have the freedom to express their opinions.

Amendment: This case falls into the First Amendment because the First Amendment protects the freedom of speech. Even though the students were wearing armbands instead of speaking they were still expressing their opinions and that is a right given to them by the First Amendment.

Jasmine's Case Summary: The article is about how teachers and students wore black armbands because they didn't want anything to do with the Vietname War and they ended up getting banned from school. It was sent to court and the teachers/students won because they have the right to express their opinions.

Amendment: I believe this acase pertained to the First Amendment because they wore arm bands that expressed their dislike for the fact that the US was part of the a Vietnam War. That was their way they voiced their opinions. They were punished for doing something they had the right to do.
